History of Diehl's Truck World
Due to the changing political and social environment in Germany, the Diehl family immigrated to The United States in the 1880s. A family of craftsmen, they founded Diehl and Sons Inc. in 1889, which specialized in manufacturing horse-drawn wagons.
As The turn of the century, transportation needs shifted from horse-drawn wagons to the
the emerging technology of trucks. The Diehl family adapted to this advancement in technology and began manufacturing truck bodies in 1904. In 1940, they transformed their operation into a full-service truck dealership and began selling and servicing vehicles.
For 23 years, The Diehl family operated a successful truck dealership and were ready to sell their business. In 1963. Bob Austin purchased the dealership from the original Diehl family and took over as the dealer principal.
Mr. Bob Austin brought years of experience and insight to the dealership from working at a
major truck manufacturer. In 1970, Diehl & Sons Inc. began offering Mercedes-Benz trucks at the dealership. These vehicles were the first diesel trucks imported and sold in this country.
Doug Austin, son of Bob Austin, entered the dealership in 1974 and is currently the dealer
principle. In the 1980s several key truck franchises were acquired. In 1985. the dealership took on Isuzu Trucks. Mitsubishi Fuso trucks were introduced to the dealership the very next year. While Freightliner trucks arrived at the dealership in 1989. Western Star was acquired in 2023.
Diehl's Truck World led the industry by introducing the Freightliner Sprinter Van to the United States in 2001. Widely popular in Europe, the Sprinter van was an ideal candidate for the streets of New York.
Diehl is a family-run business and currently has 2 generations working at the dealership.
The Austin Family has committed all their efforts to continually grow the business.
